I bid on this lot today as an amusement more than anything, fully expecting the winning bid to top $300-400. Not only did I win this lot, but I won it for 50 cents above the price when I decided to bite, and less than half of my max bid: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Austria-Lot...172057802455So for $13.50 + $3, I got: 1807-S 15 kreuzer, F or thereabouts 1800-S 6 kreuzer, VG-ish 1812-S 1 kreutzer, F 1851-H 2 kreuzer, G 3x 1816-A 1 kreuzer And... TWO gold ducats? Boh are holed, but those are still worth $120-130 each for melt value alone. Am I going crazy? Did I miss something obvious here?

For your sake I hope it works out for you.. my point of view.. since the seller is from Romania my spidey senses are already "tingling"... Something looks "off" on the gold pieces but they could've been "cleaned"...
I can't tell if any of the coins are actually real or not... so all I can say is for your sake I hope they're legit! Keep us posted!

Very true, but at least I have magnets and a jewelry scale to help solve the "is it gold?" question.
The other coins should be genuine. I don't see any red flags, and all of these are either junk bin coins (1816 kreuzer) or only worth a few bucks in anything below AU. Not something that would typically be counterfeited. I figured that at the end of it all, I paid about $3-5 each for these. Not too much at stake, either way.
I'll certainly be posting better pics and weights when I have them in hand.

Are they really ducats, not some gold plated brass token...? Sorry, I don't know much about Austrian coins to start off with.

Hi,
With a 99.8% Positive feedback the odds would be in your favor.
I hope you beat the system and watch out since that pinch could really wake you up.
Best of luck

Quote: ...a jewelry scale Oh, I forgot to mention that along with the magnet test calculating the SG (Specific Gravity also involves the jewelry scale) would produce a more definitive and conclusive result on the composition of this object. If it sticks, obviously pass on the SG. IMHO PS: Don't forget to keep this thread posted on your findings.

I'm still not convinced - the legend doesn't match what is shown in NGC. I'm still under the impression that they are brass.

The one to the left is definitely a spielemarke- Not gold. On the plus side, it is a neat piece and would fit nicely into a token collection

Exactly. The both got "Spielmarke" and "Rechenpfennig" written on them. The inscription says that at least the left one is a token that has been minted by Chr. Lauer, so they were both minted in Nuremberg.

Oh the other hand I think, that the guy (the seller) never claimed any of these to be gold. Or did he?

It's not too bad, given you'd probably pay $5 to $10 each from a dealer for those Austrian bronzes. But no, you didn't get any free gold, sorry. The rechenpfennigs will be made of brass. They're probably worth $5 or so each as well, from a dealer when properly identified.
