I bought a proof coin in an air tight capsule. I can't get the coin to come out of the capsule, I tried tapping the back of the capsule and I tried squeezing the sides, none of those ways seem to work. How do I get the coin out?

Wrap in towel.
Slowly crush the edges in a vise, until you hear a cracking sound. Capsule should be fairly easy to break open after that.

Is there a way to get the coin out without breaking the capsule?

Maybe it's in the original capsule from the mint? If so, you can carefully insert a tiny jewelry screwdriver into the seam and work your way around the rim. It should finally pop open.

Is it a real Air-Tite brand capsule? They should open too, but I've never had one in hand. I'm assuming it would be similar to the mint capsules.

I have no problem opening the capsule. It's the getting the coin out part that gives me the problem.

Is it an ASE? They might have put it in a 40.0 mm capsule instead of a 40.6 mm capsule. If that is the case, no you can't get it out without cracking it. I know because I accidentally did that once with an ASE bullion coin.

Try putting it in the freezer for a few minutes. Both the coin and the plastic will contract just a bit. When you take it out of the freezer, the coin should come out relatively easily. Almost always works for me.

Oh, so that's how the phrase "cold cash" came about.

Won't it harm the coin?

No, a little freezer action will not hurt the coin. It's just a piece of metal. It can handle extreme temps way better than us humans.

This is why I stopped using the air-tites. They do their job remarkably well. Don't misconstrue my stopping of using them with they are of poor quality because they are very well made. I just hated to handle them (too slippery) and also very difficult to get the coin out should I want to.
