I've decided to move work on my meager Eisenhower dollar collection up in priority for 2016. Originally, I was only doing the circulated 14 business strikes (excluding varieties, silver, and proofs). They currently reside in 2X2's in a three ring binder. Now I have a couple varieties and decided to go whole hog and do the complete set. Up until this point, my entire coin collection only had a small handful of proof and certified coins. My plan is to get all 11 Ike proofs in the best possible condition I can afford that are certified by PCGS (probably PR69DCAM). My dilemma is this, I will not want to break the coins out of the slabs to put in a regular coin album. I know some people do and some don't. Dansco has two albums for Ike, one with proofs and one without. Why get the one with proofs if all my proofs are in slabs? But then, what to do with the slabs? I know there are Air Tite albums and Caps albums using Air Tite holders that might be ok if I were to break out the slabbed coins (but I still would rather not). I see Littleton has a slab album, but from photos, I'm not a fan. Lighthouse has Encap binder sheets that you can put slabs in. They also make Everslab cases, so all your collection (including circulated coins) could go into one notebook. Maybe the Dansco album for the non proof Ikes and a separate slab box for the certified coins? Suggestions? Any options I'm missing? Wish I could keep the Ikes all together somehow.

Quote: Wish I could keep the Ikes all together somehow. Crack the slabs and fill a Dansco 8176. Kidding aside, I just looked at the Lighthouse Encap pages and suggest you go with them. I would probably just use the round capsule pages for the non-slabbed stuff. However, if the mixed-holders will bother you, then go with the Everslab holders.

Just send 'em all to JBuck - he will take good care of them! The Dansco albums are nice, especially with Silver Dollars. If the plan is to keep them all for a long time, and they aren't CC or Top registry coins, crack out and keep the labels inside the front or back page of the album.

I would probably not complain if people started sending me their Eisenhower dollars for storage.

Ok, perhaps a change of plan. I crunched the prices for the eleven Ike PR69DCAM proofs certified by PCGS. Sticker shock hit me like a sledge hammer! So, reality set in and I checked prices for regular proofs. This appears to be a better fit for my budget and overall collection. I don't mind cracking non certified proofs out and putting them into an album. Now I'm leaning towards a 8176 Dansco album. Just to confirm, the Dansco album with proofs has 32 labeled holes with 4 vacant holes?

I would get the Dansco album for the unslabbed and keep the slabbed in a nice PCGS box. I just couldn't handle breaking open slabbed coins.

I ended up getting a Dansco 8176 (with proofs) and only need to fill 4 more holes. I bought all 11 proofs in one fell swoop. I should have my Ikes completed by the end of the month, I hope.

Oh pictures... lovely, lovely pictures... And like jbuck, I love my 8176 too. VERY happy with it. Finished it up last year with a lot of help from many CCF neighbors. What's that, you say? You'd like to see photos of mine while we wait for batboy's? Well certainly. You can check them out here!

Wait, but what about the 1972 type 2 (King of the Ikes) and 1972 type 3? Wait, didn't you have more peg legs in slabs? No more Ikes? Just a small stash of extras which includes a raw AU 1972 type 3 and an uncirculated 1977.

Awesome Ikes, batboy! Well done. I like what you did with the 4 extra holes. Is the 73S Proof toned or is that just the lighting?
