Hey all, I hope these pictures post!
Glad to be a new member of the family!
Found this earlier this year in a small paper jewelry box (which was buried in a cardboard box full of old letters of my Grandfather's) along with a handful of other late 19th and early 20th century coins. I believe it was a coin my Great-Grandmother stashed away.
I'm really in love U.S. coin varieties, it's a seemingly endless world. Perhaps that's why I've avoided getting into Canadian (and other coinage from around the world) which I often admire when I see (fantastic designs and nature scenes and animals), in fear I'll get overwhelmed, head in way too many directions at once, and really totally lose my mind! But...
This 1880 NEWFOUNDLAND Cent forced me to get over my fear (or not care) and some quick! It's a beauty!
Lucky for me this date appears to provide (at least according to my relatively brief research) us with three "date" varieties?
Narrow 0, Low 0, and Level 0 in the date? This right?
Are there any more varieties for this date?
Narrow-Rare, Low-Scarce, and Level-Common?
This appears to be a Low 0 to me. What do you think?
Well, any way you cut it, it was a very exciting surprise!
And boy, it doesn't look like it's seen a lot of action in the past 135 odd years. And what a nice color.
Tell me what you think!
THANKS
