This seller has made his listings deliberately misleading.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/portlandm..._ipg=&_from=

He manufactures replica coins but says in his listings that he is not selling the copies (which are what is shown in the main photographs).

Instead he is selling his stock of original coins (upon which he bases his copies). When I queried this he stated

"The smaller picture within the description is the item we are selling. We also have originals of all the other dates and the pictures at the top are examples of our restrikes featured on our website. All the coins for sale on ebay are genuine originals out of our collection from which we have made patterns for restrikes."

The problem is that the photographs of the coins he claims to be selling are all recently 'borrowed' from dealer or auction sites. Some are currently listed on UK dealer sites and so are clearly not in his possession. Making a farce of his claim that the coins have been "accumulated over a period of over 60 years".

In other words, there is no way for a buyer to know what they will receive for their £000s .. a replica? A coin that generally matches the description but is neither of the ones pictured and of unknown quality?

All a bit vague, I know. But I just wondered if there is anything that can be done Bobby?

Sorry. Forgot to start the heading with "Counterfeit".

Example His listing for a 1847 'Gothic' crown: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-...AOSwUV9Woh8V

British-Coins-..misleading-Listings

But the coin he illustrates in the listing appears on this dealer dealer site: http://www.coinsinternational.com/f...ishCoins.htm and can be found using a simple Google image search .. as can all the smaller pictures in his listings...

Yes - odd that they state that it's legal to sell replicas in the UK in the blurb - when they give the impression that it is an original coin that is for sale. A lot of other useless info about being stored in a vault and being lazer coded for security.

The listing is a complete mess and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - as you rightly say - you have no idea what you are getting.

I have literally had over 3,000 listings removed from this guy. His listings look much more legit now, they're circulated coins in the main photos. Problem is there's multiple coins imaged when only one is for sale. What am I getting? Which obverse goes with which reverse? I'll forward it along....

Thanks Bobby!

I agree. His main seller pictures are of the modern replica coins he makes.

His smaller pictures which he claims he's actually selling are copied from auction sites like the-saleroom.com or dealers.

It's a mess.

Woah! Bobby! You are brilliant! All his listings are gone! Result.

(Thanks for that. A few contacts and I have been discussing his listings but only a couple have gone as a result. That a few more potential buyers are now protected is excellent. Thank you!)
