I recently bought few Everslab capsules for some of my coins and noticed that they have micro scratches all over them. Are they supposed to be like that? These are not deep scratches, the nail doesn't hook when you run your finger across. But still a disappointment, because the manufacturer says:
Quote:
Capsules are made from clear and scratch resistant plastic.

Is there any way I can remove those scratches? Are there any better ways to store my more valueable coins, because I'm not happy with these holders, the coin kind of falls into the foam.
I was thinking air tite capsules or PCCB Slabs from Alliexpress
I would love to be able to buy Coin World slabs, but I live in Europe and shipping from U.S. to me is more than $30.
What do you think?

The questions you ask should be directed to whomever you purchased these slabs from. If they are a reputable company they must surely have a return policy.

Surely there must be a coin supply company in the country you live in. Check them out , they probably have different types of slabs and plastic holders to your liking .

The plastic for most coin holders is soft enough to scratch easily. Sometimes they can be helped a little with commercial products. I've had some success with automotive/motorcycle products, especially those marketed to remove scratches from head lights and windshields. I've even tried finishing with a wax polish. To keep them protected, I store them in their own little zip lock bags that I get in bulk at the local Wal*Mart.

those slabs look great, but (based on the coin in your photo) consider if the coins you are collecting are worth more, or less, than the holder they are in?

depending on the size of the collection you might want to consider SAFLIPS (SAF-T flips are not the same, they contain a small amount of vinyl).

I am in the midst of transferring my "one from each country" collection into them.
the extra pocket gives room to add a lot of detailed notes (mine will include a small map of where the country is) and leaves the coin readily accessible for photographing etc.

cost and storage ratio is about 5:1 over slabs.

for my higher end collection (200 year old colonial stuff) I have considered slabs (currently in cardboard 2x2s). I LOVE the look of the PCCB ones but am nervous about safe long term storage. as far as I can tell with garage testing the shells are PETE (safe) and the inner holder is HDPE (safe) but until I can CONFIRM this there is no way I am putting coins worth $100 a piece into them.

PCCB has a thicker shell than world premier (by about double) and they seal together nice and tight. just need to confirm chemical composition.

the Coin World premier is the next best. but they just stopped making white and black inserts. dark green is now the only color available (not my favorite when using with toned copper). if they still had black and white they would be my first choice.

the slabs you show look like lighthouse brand. I don't like the foam insert (too tight and it pillows around the edge of the coin) and the plastic shell is the thinnest I've seen of the 3.

hope this helps, and

I have about 50 Everslabs. Some have the odd scratch out of the box but nothing major.

Of course it's nothing major, but buying new product and manufacturer saying it's scratch resistant plastic, makes it disappointing when you get them like that.

Thanks for the reply, I'm really considering buying those PCCB holders, but not 100% sure of their quality, I need more opinion on them.
Or maybe I should just use simple self-adhesive 2x2s for all of my coins, I have over 50 normal coins put in them and I like the looks of those holders, it's just that I wanted more protection or more caring for my more valueable coins.
