I haven't even started researching gold yet (funds are far away from ever getting one now) but I would start by getting the hardest gold coin in either my Mexico or US type albums on the gold pages.

Other than that, most likely, as old as I can go. So either an ancient, or a ducat of some kind. (A large electrum piece would be nice, but probably over the money.) But if I can find some fractional 19th (or 18th) century gold denominations for anywhere near metal value (such as the ones described in this post)... as many different countries for these as I could get for that money. Of course, realistically, I'll buy one or two common small 19th century coins (might or might not be American, depending on what I encounter first), and spend the rest on silver (with $100 left over for bargain bins). |

  These are my most expensive coin purchases to date (images are not my actual coins). Direct from US Mint on the first, PCGS MS-63 on the second (from ebay). Love the reverse of the (no motto) St Gaudens $20 - would love to buy one of those one day. I really liked the 2015 Liberty high relief $100 gold - out of my budget. Edited by one_fine_dime

St. Gaudens $20 all the way. One time at our LCC meeting we auctioned one off... a 1927 MS-64 CAC $20, starting bid $1,400... No one even bid!

I'm a gold Indian fan,half or quarter ya can't go wrong, unless ya just grossly overpay. I would how ever stick with graded, fakes are abundant.
