Its been a while since I posted on this forum or bought a coin... but went into the LCS and asked to peruse the junk silver. Pulled these 2 out and got them for 21 per... Ugly as sin but they fill a couple holes in the Dansco until I can get upgrades...

This is my newest Peace dollar acquisition, which was a gift from my grandparents that was given to them for their wedding anniversary decades ago. They got me into coin collecting, so this has lots of sentimental value and is undoubtedly one of my favorite coins in my collection! It was stored in a holder made of leather and felt, producing the obverse toning. Combined with the awesome coins in this thread, it makes me want to start a Peace dollar set someday!

Nice story and I bet the toning is rather pleasing in hand for a Peace dollar. Leather is known to tone pre-33 gold quite well. Nice to see an example of what it can do to a Peace dollar

Thank you Cascade! The toning is very nice in hand, I wish I could've captured it more in the picture. It's taken about 35 years or so to develop.

This thread shows several good examples of gold toning on Peace dollars. Here's a 1992 quote from John Kamin (from PCGS CoinFacts):

"After I had bumped into that 100-bag hoard of 1924 Philadelphia Mint Peace dollars, I aggressively sought out large quantities of "sister" 1925 Peace dollars, but soon began to discriminate. There were two different kinds of strikes and conditions on the 1925 that I noticed. The 1925 cartwheels that interested me were the highly struck-up 1925 Peace dollars that reminded me of the 1921 Peace dollars, so well were those 1925s struck. These particular 1925 Peace dollars that I sought were often golden toned, indicating long storage in tubes in a particularly beneficial atmosphere. Although they were not as high relief as the hard-to-stack 1921 Peace dollars, they were indeed beautiful."

"My personal opinion is that those beautiful struck-up 1925 Peace dollars (which I never found by the bag, by the way, only individual rolls) in over 30 years of searching, are quite scarce."

There are a lot of uncirculated 1925 Peace dollars on ebay with gold toning. Most are uneven looking, but a few show as well as AcesKing's 1921 and JJuliano's 1935-S. Extremely nice looking coins for under $100, in grades MS63-MS64.

"Two minutes ago I would have sold my chances for a tired dime." Fred Astaire

I just bought a 1934 Peace dollar in MS61. When I get the coin I will try and post it. I am buying 1927 and 1934 Peace dollars because they both have mintage less than one million.

I have one of those nice sharp strike 1925 unc Peace dollars that has very few bag marks that when I sold my silver rolls in the 70s that was to nice to get melted. So I kept it.

I got 5 from my store lady for $90 a while back. 22,2-23`s 27D and 34D in xf+

I'm working on a set too, but adding the complication that I can only get them out of the bulk bins.

I would love to find a junk silver dollar bin that had a 27-S and 34-S like AndrewMarek's upthread.

I may have to concede on the 28, but I not until I have too.
