I have a Mercury dime with a date that is odd looking. It looks like it could be 1938 but I want another opinion to make sure it is. The back of the coin does not have a mint mark. Can someone help me?

The date is 1938 and the mint mark is on the reverse, left side of the fasces.
Rest in Peace

A photo of the entire obverse and reverse would be helpful.

Appears to be Fine grade from Philadelphia if no mint mark on the reverse, other than that, it is a normal circulated dime.

What about the "open" 8?

PMD being post mint damage - something that happened in circulation.

It looks to me like something struck the rim and the eight and deformed it.

Thanks for the responses. I have included more images just so you can see all of it. I suppose it is PMD. The opening of the "8" just looks so crisp and delineated that I thought it might be an error.
