Here is a unattributed 1878 MS64* 8TF VAM 14.11 "Wild Eye Spikes". It is a very nice coin. How much would you pay for this coin? Is this a $500 coin or a $23,500 coin? The coin sold today on Heritage for $23,500. I was watching the live auction on the internet and it was like it was broke as it kept going up in price.

Yeah, that's a super rare r7 top100 and that might be the top pop. An au55 sold in 2008 for 15k so a 64 in 2016 for 23.5k doesn't seem unwarranted to me... All it takes is 2 bidders who want it bad enough and with the dough to throw at it

Nice looking coin.
For me .. even if I was rich, I don't think I would pay that much for it.

Very appropriate title. Whoever submitted it to NGC didn't even pay the extra $5 to have the VAM identified.

It would be nice to know the history on the coin. My guess when submitted to NGC, the owner did not know what they had. Maybe CAC picked up on the VAM and called to make an offer.

Or they didn't want the extra scrutiny. Personally, I submit my big vams without attribution then get the vss sticker. Or it was submitted by a non vammer just because of the beauty and hoping for a pl designation
