Does this mean we should be starting to save up our now 'old' $5 notes for selling in the future?

Thanks for the heads up. I've only got a few notes in my collection, including the original $5 note (dated 1992), the original $10 note (dated 1993), the federation $5 note (dated 2001), and a few of the current $5 notes (dated 2002), so it seems like I'm going to have to start collecting $20, $50 and $100 notes as well.

While the updated notes will have a "fresh, modern feel", they'll retain the same colour, size and people portrayed on each denomination.

That is good to hear. It sounds like they got bad feedback on those monstrosities they gave a preview of in 2012 so have abandoned that artwork.

Apparently the new $10 will also be released this year with the remaining $20, $50 and $100 being released in 2017

At last we will get to see the $5 note on Monday.

Quote from the RBA "the Bank intends to publish images of the new $5 banknote on 12 April.
