I've posted this large cent before. I purchased it in a blue-label ANACS holder, graded MS-60. Grades determined by ANACS during their "blue label" period are not considered to be reliable. In fact, I think the company has disallowed their usual warranty obligations for those coins. So, it would have been to my advantage if I managed to get this coin crossed to PCGS or NGC. I tried both companies and both refused to cross it at MS-60.

I brought the coin to the Long Beach show and showed it to several dealers who specialize in early copper. The general opinion was the coin showed a slight trace of wear but was otherwise problem-free. So, I decided to try the PCGS crossover special offer. This time I specified that AU-58 was the minimum crossover grade. I was pleased to receive the coin yesterday, in a brand-new PCGS slab. I'm confident that the coin is potentially more valuable and (when the time comes) will be easier to sell in the new holder.

You have to look hard to find them, but
there is the tiniest amount of wear on the high points, both sides.

A really nice coin anyway

There's always a lot of interest in nice looking, and original AU-58 coins.

I think you did very well.

In my world, I do not see many Classic head large cents.

I really love the looks of that one.

It is good your happy with your new holder.

Great looking coin but agree, a very slight trace of rub but original besides.
Nice crossover. PCGS is a much better option for this coin ;-)

If there were an AU59 designation this one would be deserving. Great example!

I think the crossover was a wise move on your part.

If these 2 slabbed were cloned and sitting side by side I would walk away with the PCGS coin for more money every time.
Rest in Peace

Fantastic cross that deserves a congratulation.

Your coin is much happier after escaping from that ANACS blue horror.

Nice.

You are correct, ANACS will reslab blue using the old blue label (say it was cracked), but cannot honor guarantees made by previous owners.

Coins that were certified by ANACS under previous ownership will be reholdered in ANACS' blue label. Coins that were certified since January 1, 2008, when ANACS began its new ownership, will be reholdered using ANACS' gold label.

Most AU58 coins have better eye appeal than a MS60 coin and your coin is No exception to this.

And I would walk away with the equal quality ANACS coin for less money every time. (At least I would if I could, this is well out of my price range.)
