really hard to capture the beautiful purple toning on this one through the holder.

Thanks for looking.

Forgive my memory, but isn't this the first commemorative Canadian coin? I see a lot of superfluous interruption to the toning and some die burn, but not a lot of actual marks, so I'll go out on a limb and say MS-64.

this coin is nicer than or at least equal to the 65s I have seen in hand but due to the luster break n front of his forehead will say 64.

kbbpll, 1935 was our first.

I'd say MS64, the fields are pretty clean.

The holder is about to break on this one at the fold. The two halves are only held together by about a half an inch of plastic. I bought it that way and thought I would break it out of the holder once I got it home. I would love to take after pics to see if anyone's opinion changes and to try to get the full effect of the purple toning. What do you guys think? Should I bust it out?

WAIT! Which firm certified the coin? If it remains intact, they will likely re-holder it for you for free/nominal fee (I've had to do this a couple of times with ICCS, and they replaced them all for free). Unless you're looking to get a secondary grading opinion; in which case, sure, bust it out, take pics, and re-submit. As for the coin, I'd conservatively say MS-62.

Busted it out of the holder and shot again. Still very hard to get the full effect of the purple toning. Much more colorful in hand.

I may get it re-graded one day. I think I can enjoy it a bit more for now.
