I think $900 is closer to VF price than Fine.
So you want to be sure it is a problem free VF.
Next time you look at it, look for problems, like Rim dings Scratches Signs of old cleaning (hair line scratches)
I suggest the second look, because if like me, when you first look at a coin you might see the good and overlook the negative.
If it is a true VF problem free coin, it might be one to work out a deal on.
Just my opinion .... See what the experts say ... And when you post pictures.

After looking at the greysheet and other price guides .. And ebay. $900 is looking like a good price for a F/VF 1877 Indian. Not sure what is was looking at last night, might have been one colum off. Will be good to see some pictures.

It looked problem free to me. Very little wear. Don't remember any scratches. It did have a few green spots on it though on the back in the crevices.
I should be able to get pictures tomorrow. I ended up getting a 1921 d walking liberty from him. A little cheaper!

I think you made the right call, in particular in light of the green spots on the reverse.

IMHO, that's not a bad deal, $900 for a truly VF 1877. I suggest that you put down a deposit, being the amount of the PCGS or NGC certification fee. IF it comes back a problem-free VF, you pay the balance. If not, he refunds your deposit. Spell out the deal on a receipt, too!

Drum roll please.... here it is. Sorry it is out in the middle of no where. The front had scratches on the plastic. It came from the widow of one of his old customer. First 2 are from Photoshop color correction. Other 2 are from forum software. So worth the $900?

Jim7219 ... Now that I see it, just buy it! No need to slab this one. That's a good deal. Looks like a genuine VF 20 or slightly better to me.

$900 is a lot of cash. But I feel I would buy that coin. Overall a nice looking VF coin. Small rim ding on the reverse. Maybe a misaligned die, little weak at "of America" on obverse and on reverse at arrows. The green spots do not seem bad, I would treat with Verdi care. This coin would make most of my other 1870's IHC's look bad, but it would look great filling the empty hole in my Dansco.

I gotta say I had low expectations for this 1877 after hearing about the green spots, the price tag, and you only having 29 posts (so far. . . ).
Pleasantly surprised here for a change. Often these types of threads end up with a fake coin or a grossly over graded coin for the price.
Looks like you got yourself a good dealer to work with Jim. Treat him well and it is often reciprocated.
