I have a chance to buy a 1877 Indian that's vg to f for a very good price. Or should I buy a better grade Morgan instead? I am building up a collection to sell in about 15-20 years.

I won't know the exact price until the dealer figures price tomorrow.

I have been thinking about that same question lately. I guess I am seeing some many IHC's posted recently, that it has me thinking about finishing my Dansco. ( I have three empty holes) My best answer would be. If your looking at both, have it down to two coins. Which is the best deal?

You can always get common Morgans in quite high MS condition. This may be the only chance you get, to have a '77 IHC. Get it. A 'no brainer'.

Just wondering, are you confident in your ability to spot a fake 1877 and / or your dealer's return policy?
That is about the only thing that would slow my roll here.

No offense intended to your dealer, but the 1877 is a very heavily counterfeited coin. Is it certified? If not, and you are not terribly familiar with that date, I'd recommend posting pictures here before you buy.
In most cases there are enough folks who know the 1877 so well that they can be fairly certain of authenticity, even from photos.

If I was confident that it is real I would get the IHC you may never get the chance again.

Thanks everyone. Just talked to him today. It is around a f to vf range and he wants $900. No nearly as good deal as I hoped. I doubt it is a fake. If it is it is a good one. It has been aged real well and he guaranteed me it is genuine. I will see if I can get a picture before I buy it. You guys act like they don't make the IHC any more!
