Hello everyone I came across this Barber dime and to me it looks like the rim area is way to wide .. It may just be a normal dime idk but it made me curious enough to ask :)

I'm not really sure- I'm thinking it might have been filed or something. What are the diameter and weight? BTW, I think you need to worry about your battery more than the coin.

I don't have the coin In hand , only the photo .. So I guess it's possible that it was filed .. I though maybe it could have been some type of error ? Anyone's guess is as good as mine at this point ..

Looks like a "Texas-size" coin where a coin is hammered in between two pieces of leather.

I think the details are too good for that. A broadstrike is a possibility, but I doubt it due to the reasonably well-defined edge. If you can get it in hand, check if it has reeds.

All I can tell you is it's NOT wear . And I'm pretty sure it's not a mint error . PMD .

I'm leaning towards it being a jewelry piece. It was in a tight bezel at one time.

First thing we would need to know is if the diameter has bee increased. I suspect it has. If so is it a broadstrike or a mutilated coin. The rev from 12 - 3:00 looks like it might show evidence of reeding. If the edge is reeded then it isn't a broadstrike. Could it have been "Texas sized" by pounding between two pieces or leather? I don't think so because such a coin expands proportionately and this one hasn't. what it looks like is that something like maybe a piece of pipe with the proper diameter to just sit on the rim of the coin has been set on it and struck just flattening and expanding the outer rim. A steel plate with a hole in it the proper size would work the same.

We need pictures of the rim. That would help us determine if it is a broadstrike or PMD

It is a ruined coin. Nice to see the LIBERTY is still there. But someone killed a very nice coin. To me it looks like just the rim area was flattened. The best of the doesn't show that it was flattened between two pieces of leather. Probably the reeds are gone. So it may have been done to fit into a bezel for a necklace?
