I think cleaned. The streaks in the field in front of Lincoln cause me to worry. And the rough texture around Lincoln's profile almost look like it was cleaned with acid

I would say it was lightly wiped at some point in its life and has since retoned nicely and has nice eye appeal. 1916-S Lincoln Cents with mint luster are not a common sight, so there's some definite value to this coin in my opinion unless you are looking to get it certified.

I'm on the fence too. If reverse pic was more clearer I might have a better determination. It's like half of me says original and the other half says NOT !

I'm not sure if it's original surfaces or not either, but if it is you got a heck of a deal.

It is cleaned. I would not waste my money if it were me.

Cleaned. The luster and spots give it away.

Okay, so for mine and others edification, are you all looking at these areas I've circled and noting the difference in texture as saying this is cleaned? Also, is it just me or do the wheat kernels look worn down? Possibly on purpose that the reverse is out of focus? Seems like a pretty sharp strike for them to be worn down that bad.

I agree--looking at it again, the wheat do look really worn...

The color is just wrong. It's cleaned. If you want to learn a great deal about cleaned cents, get a couple of the dip products and use them on a few near worthless LWC. Or even try a few BU toned 50's LWC, too. You are not actually hurting coins worth 3 cents, in my opinion. After playing with cleaning yourself and what a dipped cent looks like and after leaving a few of those dipped coins on the window sill to tone you will be able to tell a cleaned copper coin with great certainty. In this instance doing bad to learn is the best education.

I've got an 1868 Indian Head cent that looks just like this one, believe me...it's been cleaned.

Looks cleaned at some point, probably a long time ago. Those type of black spots always worry me on a questionable coin. They are not carbon spots.

try to clean a copper coin yourself. The pink color after dipping in a coke is the very telling.
