I have bought some steel cents from them in the past when I started collection coins. I was just wondering what the opinions of the gurus on this site have to say about them. I know it's a business targeting the "less than knowledge" collector, I just want to know if they sell quality or not for the price. They are advertising the 86 state, territories and national park quarters in uncirculated condition for $30.00. What do y'all think?
A few thoughts on Littleton from years of experiences. I wouldn't call them "scammers", but they do dance a fine line.
Sometimes their specials are a good buy. Yeah, it involves approvals but all you have to do is return the approvals and ask them to cancel the service.
Their coins can be very pricey, but their quality is usually good. If you have no local shop you are their intended target audience. Best bet is to always buy your coins at a show or local coin shop.
When selling to Littleton you fill find out that their buying standards are very high. When they say "very good plus" they expect to receive "fine" coins and will return the very good stuff. They are very picky.
I stay away from them but they have their place in the coin dealer food chain.
I don't buy from their site but I do respond for ads. Last week I responded for the $8 in Presidential dollars for $8 and you get a quarter for free (shipping is free.) I got the order yesterday and made a quarter
Quote: I would stay away from anything Littleton. They are scammers that stay within the bounds of the law. IMO
Strong statement! You get "exactly" what they advertise and "exactly" what you pay for. If you choose to pay at the higher end of the scale, that is on you, not them. Can you find them cheaper on ebay, online stores or online auctions. Yes. Are you going to get any fake, counterfeit or "not as described coins" from these places? Yes. Are you going to get any from Littleton? No! That is what many people pay for.
I have many...many Littleton coins. Some I have gotten from online auctions (at considerably lower prices than Littleton) and they have always been nice good quality BU coins. Most I got when I was a kid, before there was an "online", before there were computers. Back when the only "coin shop" was Dad's pocket change that he left on his dresser every night and if you were really lucky, a coin show came somewhere in your state once a year or so.
You used to save your paper route and your "chores" money and wait anxiously for the Littleton Coin catalog to come in the mail, so you could pour over it and see what was new and what you could afford. And what would have to wait for a birthday or Christmas gift.
Littleton Coin has been around since the '40's ........... you spoiled rotten young little whippersnappers .........
Denco7 I apsalutly love that response to any question I have ever asked. I understand at the age of thirty I am rather young, I who's I had been born 30 years sooner to live in a simpler time. I have only known this kind of living where everything from communication to shopping to gaining information is an instant gradifacation. The type of life where you had to work for what you have and a man's word is still worth a dam. Reading about you waiting for the Littleton book to show up then waiting for that package to show up at the door, I don't want to say it's kinda like Christmas, but the antisapation and excitement is something kids, and adults don't have to wait around for anymore. I envy you and your experiences. I have to raise a little boy in this world where police are shunned and attacked for doing their jobs, where someone can just decid one day "maybe I want to be a woman" and everyone is ok with it. You can't even speak your option without being called a racist or biggit. I miss the good old days!
My local coin shop I have witnessed this many times has the problem where most people that the inherit a Littleton collect come in to sell it and can not recoup the cost.
although if in discount junk box at local coin shop they worth picking up if you see the coin in that lovely bag.
never buy directly from them... but coin in hand you never know I got a top 100 variety once in a littleton bag and once found a very nice Buffalo nickel

To answer your original question, that offer is very good. It's doubtful that you could find anywhere else cheaper. I saw dealers at a coin show yesterday who were trying to sell state/ATB quarters at two or three times the price offered by Littleton (for this item).
I do not have any experience with Littleton for older coins, but everything I bought from them (newer coins) was of high quality standards.
Of course, DO NOT forget to cancel future Littleton 'offers'. Items they offer after your initial purchase are almost always priced much higher than available elsewhere.
It's pretty evident that his grandparents had the coins shipped to him and he never read the paperwork he got with the coins. Littleton ALWAYS encloses their shipments with 'offer rules' and return envelopes/addresses.
He wouldn't have had any problems if he, or anyone else in his household, knew how to read.
