I was an unsuccessful bidder on this FDIC brass sign 131741750277 I was going to hang it on my wall.

I found a photo of the bank online when I was searching for a photo of a cafe a family member worked at back in the 1940s to 1960s for a project.

The Nevada National Bank was established on January 1, 1934 and given Charter # 14065. This institution acquired FDIC insurance on March 16, 1934.

The bank issued Series 1929 Type 2's before the note issuing period ended in 1935. I only found one auction record from 2011 for a $10 note in VF25 that sold for over $5,000

I bet you all are tired of hearing me talk about nationals.

That is a tough bank to get a note from. Pretty much any of the 14xxx charter numbers are tough when you think about it.

That's cool. Any idea what was supposed to go in that large blank space?

I'd guess the blank area was mostly likely where they posted their operating hours.

Good guess as far as I'm concerned. That's a nice piece of history.

I love history and this is really cool. If would be great if you found a picture of the sign in or on the bank. I love seeing an old picture and then hold in my hand something that was in said picture.

Cool item. Possibly a calendar?

Calendar makes more sense as the item was probably a promotional give-a-way.

The seller thought and this is directly from the description "center area had a separate sign indicating the amount each account was insured for. Every time that amount was raised, a new piece would replace it."

It seemed plausible when I first came across the auction. After seeing chequer's post I think a calendar is the more likely answer too.

That is a neat item. I've collected a number of local bank promotional items to go along with my few bills. It's surprising how many people bid on bank related merchandise. Even the Revenuers (Local and State Tax Stamp collectors in particular) seem to like those items, too.
