An old topic was "what is your pet peeve about coin collecting?"

Let us think of something positive now, ladies and gentlemen.

What I like best is the friends and acquaintances I have made over the years, and that includes some dealers.

I don't like it at all. It's just that I'm addicted to it and can't stop, stop, stop.
In reality I really don't know. I do it and never really gave it a thought as to what I like about it. I know I like to attempt to complete sets and fill and Album, but never really sat down and thought why.

I enjoy coin collecting in many different ways...
I enjoy the thrill of coin roll hunting
I enjoy the astonishment that comes from holding an ancient coin
I enjoy laying on my bed holding a 1943 steel cent thinking of how a G.I. could've stormed normandy with this coin in his pocket...

That being said, I love everything about coins!

The history of it and the fact that coin collecting doesn't take up a ton of space like some other hobbies.

Must agree: mostly for history (or: story behind a coin), but also for the artistic aspect. Remote possibilities of finding something rare or semi rare also help :)

The thrill of holding in my hand an object that was used over 2000 years ago and the history about it.

I agree with many fellow collectors here. It is amazing to hold a coin in my hands that is several centuries old an to imagine who else could have paid with it or what you could have bought with it that time...

My list of thoughts on your question, not in any particular order.

1. The thrill of the chase, for a coin show, an antique show, or flea market. If you find nothing, on the positive, the money is still in your pocket and you had a great power walk.

2. The relaxation at the end of one of those crazy busy stressful work days, looking through my coin collection, before my wife comes home from her work.

3. The feeling of success filling a gap in the collection, though it is fleeting.

4. A great cherry-pick to fill or upgrade the collection.

5. The history of course and learning from that history.
Rest in Peace

I have to say I'm addicted to coin collecting . I guess because it's fun and it keeps my mind occupied as I am retired with nothing else going on in my life. I love classic U.S. coins. the history behind them is unbelievable .

I can explain and answer this topic because I am experienced in human behavior and have read Paul Quinnett.
It's called "The Grab". No different when a bass takes your surface lure or a stream trout takes your dry fly. It's about the grab. When the next coin you seek presents itself, and you land it, it's about "The Grab".
