Because it's what I do and who I am. I'm definitely a history buff, and appreciate the value that collecting such antiquities provide. I'm always looking for nice looking examples of better-date coins. It's become very difficult to find nice, original, unmessed-with ones, so whenever an opportunity presents itself, the thrill is real.

The thrill of the hunt. That is why I don't really like completing a series.
The great people that I meet along the way: dealers, other collectors and novices.
Thinking about the stories the coins tell. Who had them, where have they been, were they used to help someone?

For me it is NOT about the history. Social Studies as it is called where I went to school in Canada was my least favourite academic subject. That being said coins has "forced" me to learn more about history than I would have signed up for.

For me it is about completing a set of something and the semblance of order.

It's all about the thrill of the hunt and finally finding that unique or hard to find specimen.
It is also all about trying to quench my thirst for knowledge, The deeper I delve in numismatics the more I have to learn and develop my skills.
I tend get bored very easily But with coins there is always some reason you have to search for answers and skills that need to be honed.
I LOVE IT

The history associated with collecting is the reason I collect

I like the fact that there are so many different ways to enjoy it. Series, type, domestic or foreign, privately or socially ; there is no right or wrong except when discussing ethics or the lack thereof.

The thrill of the find. The pride of showing off what little I have. The accomplishment of completing a series.

I'm focused on circulated world coins, most of these countries I will never get to see, except in pics, online or my favourite through my coins, I like the history behind and on these coins, getting a new coin or currency and studying the history behind the details on it.

I like that it's quiet.
I can work on the coins while listening to the radio or a movie.
Can't do that with the guns and motorcycles.

The limitless possibilities for a variety of collections. That and the fact that like many here, I am a history buff.
