The numbers 6 and 9. Is this a mint error? I'm new.

to the CCF Sorry, it's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like there are circles around some of the date's numbers. Is that correct? Are they indentations or just rings around the numbers? Tell us what you see and try to get better pictures of both sides of the dollar.

They are indentions.

My opinion: someone took a drill press, or something similar, and tried to shave off the numbers. I'd think any indentation like that would have to be intentional PMD. Now, if it were raised, that would be interesting (though I have no idea how that would be possible). I'm certainly no expert though, Rizen. Maybe others have a different idea.

PMD. If not damaged by a drill press, then hit with a drift pin or something similar.

Or tapped with a round punch. If the opposite side is dimpled out opposite that area, that is what happened to your coin.

I noticed dimples. Why would anyone do that?

Trying to create an error. What do they do with them when they are done? Put them back into circulation.

If not then, then curiosity or boredom maybe.
