Looking around for an old vertical-post enlarging stand to convert to a macro copy stand. I'll be using a DSLR, PB-6 bellows, and hopefully a 105mm El-Nikkor enlarging lens, so I think I'm going to need a mounting post longer than 24 inches.

Any recommendations as to a simple-to-convert make and model? Found a Durst M301 for cheap, will the 24" post be an issue?

I intend on mounting the camera on an extension so it's over the center of the board, I prefer to work with the top of the camera facing the mounting post, so I can lean over the front and see all the LED screens and such.

I don't know much about the durst.... My first copy stand was converted from a Minolta II color enlarger. The good thing about what would become the camera arm is that it is counter balanced by a steel spring. You do need to cut it to size after removing the enlarger equipment.. I would also recommend you change the base plate to a granite slab ( should cost less than $20.00)

Heres an example... I have seen cheaper

My first stand is outlined in this old thread. Ignore the mount I used in that thread ( it proved a bad idea) there is a better option available from thor labs( last link change country to USA for USA prices)

It depends on the largest thing you plan to photograph with the 105mm lens, and if your DSLR is APS-C. 24 inches (about 600mm) will be marginal if you need to photograph a full PCGS/NGC slab with the 105mm lens and a Canon APSC camera, at about 0.22x magnification. It depends on exactly how high above the slab you can raise the sensor.

The largest coin would be a thaler or silver dollar sized coin, smallest is a Dutch 1/4 cent, I believe. I do have some slabbed coins, the PCGS would stay slabbed, the Coin World stuff I would remove for photography and replace. I'll use a Nikon D7000, PB-6 Bellows, and hopefully the 105mm El-Nikkor, but I do have other lenses available, from 20mm on up, some with Macro features.
