I don't collect notes or currency, only coins.

The opportunity arose to purchase this small collection of notes for only $60. I couldn't resist.

The 25 and 10 cent notes have no folds or creases that I can find. The 50 cent note has 1 fold but the 5 cent note is torn, sadly.

Interested to hear opinions on grades and values, please.

I think you probably did okay, but keep your day job.

The two SCs look to be in the VF range, but the large 1923 issue appears discolored at the top. The '28A small note is a Funny Back but common, and this example has a tight left margin, which holds it back. Together, these two would probably not make $60 on our local bid board.

It comes down to the Fractionals, not my field - hopefully another member can comment.

Looks like a great buy!

The 50c Fractional with Edwin Stanton is probably the best of the bunch. Might get close to recouping your investment on that one note.

I agree with @Coinfrog, you did OK.

Most of the notes would be considered fairly common problem notes.....meaning, that if you have the note in hand and describe it to someone you might say "The note shows even circulation, BUT it has some staining and hard folds, or it has a small tear, or it's poorly centered."

Kinda reminds me of my mom when she would get home after going to garage sales. I'd say, Mom this is broken and she would say, but I got it really cheap.

On a positive note, you can probably recoup your investment if you decide to sell them.

It's usually not a good bet when you buy something impulsively you don't understand.

Yea pretty much figured I paid about half the retail value of these notes and went into the purchase knowing such. I do have a pretty good understanding of how to buy/sell just about anything. Was looking for some accurate grades from people who specifically collect these types of notes, not generalized statements about collecting.
