Yep I believe meadowview made the correct call, the reverse matches exactly the obverse is really close, only different due to die state of the cracks, this coin looks super I'd say either AU58+ or MS64 depending on any wear or rub spots under high intensity lamps showing. I find nickels can be a tough grade due to the dull (usually) surfaces, they hide light rub quite nicely in photos. Minor doubling (for the Shield nickel series) it is pretty major compared to almost any other series of coinage. The 1873 Shield nickel is one of the tougher coins to tell the open and closed varieties.

No it isn't graded but I am going to grade it now that I know what variety it is. Thank you for all your info! I'm just hoping they don't details it because it has a very light diagonal scratch through the top lines of the shield from top left to bottom right (last photo). We'll just have to wait and see...

I'm not sure that is actually a scratch, it looks more like another coin hit it possibly in a bag of them, more like a Morgan dollar gets clanked together, nickels are hard and much smaller, but it doesn't really have the lok of a details type scratch.

Actually fletcher-7. It's the first one they have ever graded and they have pictures of my coin as their example of the variety where they list all the varieties they slab.
