I was at the local coin shop on Friday. I picked up some hot looking coins for my WWII set... OH...anyway, a guy came in with a pile of stuff and sold it to the owner. The owner left it on the counter and I was going through it. He had some fun stuff, but nothing I need at the moment. Then at the bottom was this box with 3 SBA sealed in first day of issue envelopes. While I'm not an SBA kinda guy, I have been toying with the idea. I asked him, "what did you pick these up for?" He replied..."$3" I said "I'll give you your $3 back" His response was..."$3, save me from entering them into the system...sold" Can't beat getting things for face value sealed with a box and COA to boot. Pretty cool! I just finished a slabbed SBA set :) What'd you pick up for your WWII set? I'm working on a slabbed set of wartime composition planchet Jeffersons :)

Nothing will ever go wrong to buy mint state first day issues with face.

ElonU, you asked, you shall receive. 1941 p .50 Raw, blast white I say ms62 1942 S .25 Raw, MS62-4 with some purple toning. 1941 P, D, & S RAW MS64ish, fresh out of a roll, the P has a nice little die crack on the rev. 1942 .5 RAW, I can't believe coins this old look this good. 1941 S .5 RAW, the fields are so clear, I swear it could be a proof, but I doubt it...maybe it is, i'll post it in the grade section shortly. That put a nice dent in the collection, now it's time to put them in the book and start showing it off. But the SBA, fun catch and thats what this hobby s all about. I'm thinking a slabbed SBA set too.

Nice SBA pickups Nothing like being at the right place, at the right time.

Wow! And they're genuine first day of issue coins, not the 3rd party graded ones that have to be removed from their original government packaging. I'll give you $4 + postage. That's an instant 33% return on investment. :)

One50, Sounds like you had a nice time at your LCS. Great pickups! I have about 3/4 of my Wartime planchet nickel set completed. I'm doing all the silver alloy only, not any errors, DDOs or any of the non-silver early '42. I am though, getting the Type 1 and 2 proof, as that is a variety I feel belongs in the set.....I may go after the '43/2 and a '44 Henning to round it out a little more. BTW, check out my SBA collection if you get a chance. Maybe you'll be inspired to get the slabs......my pics are crappy and don't do the coins justice though: https://goccf.com/t/257140
