The thing I pickup on fairly easily after the initials is the distortion of the incuse devices...all the shield cent doubled dies I have come across always seem to in some way effect the incuse EPU but I've got to think this does not have to be the case is it?

Depending of the event that caused the doubled die (single squeeze process) it may changes the rules a bit. If it is the class 9 doubling, then the snap into the correct position will alter the rules a bit. Class 9 doubling: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdsLower areas of the intials only affected. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdsNote the doubling on the left side of the central devices on this one. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdsDoubling on the lower initials central area. Class 4 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=edsQuote: Very strong extra thickness with distortion and some minor notching can be seen on the left side of the reverse. This includes the initials LB, ONE, portions of the shield, and UNITED STATES. More minor extra thickness and notching shows on the right side. Note the distortion and thinning of the motto as this is an incuse area of the design. Note more of the devices are affected. Top to bottom and side to side. Class 4+8 http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mds[quote]Strong extra thickness can be seen on on LB, USA, and ONE CENT, with moderate extra thickness on JFM and the shield. Notches can be found on the bottom left N and E of ONE, ENT of CENT and the LB. Distortion is seen on the incuse letters in EPU. I noticed the word distort on this one. That maybe because of a tilting of the die: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=edsThis one probably should have been listed as a Class 4+8 die: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdsIt looks like all the die was affected with distortion on the devices top to bottom. That question opened my eyes a lot better as to why there are different classes for the single squeeze dies.
