@BBC, in order for it to be a die clash, part (or all) of the design from the other side has to be transferred over. Making an overlay is the best was to assess this, but what design element from the rev are you thinking is visible on the obv? Maybe part of the scrolled banner?

It appears to be marks left from an automatic coin rolling machine. You can see more of the mark curving just above Liberty

Almost looks like a stain from a wet wrapper. Note how it is parallel to the rim? Try laying a dime on that area? If it is the same size, it maybe a cup holder coin that was stained with soda?
