I got this from a friend who said this is how he got it from the bank a while back. Said he paid a dollar for it.

Good news is, if genuine, he got .7 ounces of silver for $1 which is a great deal. Bad news is the coin has no numismatic value over face since a big chunk of it is missing!

I don't think it looks quite right, but it might be genuine.

The only legitimate thing it could be is a broken planchet like the broken cc coin at Northern Nevada Coin shop in which they get their nickname from. An EXTREEMLY rare error. But even with those pics it looks like the coin was manually cut. I'd steal a panhandler's Starbucks cup to buy that for $1 if I had too though

Wondering if the title of the post should have been "1885 Morgan Doll..." :D

Better photos required. Cut the background out, leaving only the coin in the photo. Also close ups of the edges near the cut.
But if I had to bet I'd say it's worth $6 or so for the melt value.

I say no Morgan dollar deserves to go to the melting pot no matter how bad it may have been abused. This one pushes the limit.

Agree with mox - some close-ups would probably solve a lot of questions.

It looks like a far date position. That would narrow it down to around 20 VAMs.
