I'll take a wild guess and say post strike lamination. Looks like some ghosting of the top of the "W".

Looks like some sort of surface gunk beneath "UNUM" to me - like glue, perhaps. I don't think it's a lamination.

Had something similar on an LWC. Scraped it off with my fingernail.

This is a deep hole in the coin - almost 1/2 the width of the coin!

Is there anything going on with the other side? Looks like a struck through debris.

My 2nd photo is of the other side of this feature. I see nothing unusual.

The reason I am confused about whether it is struck through or a planchet void is that a small part of the M seems to fall into the "hole". I do not know how to interpret that.

Looks like a struck through debris. The ghosting is just the edge of the device that the debris struck next to.

Thanks, everyone. I do not see what is being referred to as ghosting, though?

The front leg of the 'M' on UNUM. When a coin laminates it can leave a bit of ghosting where the lamination peeled. On this coin it is just where the edge of the design is falling away from the struck through. Another though on laminations, they are usually in a straight line. This is irregular and appears rounded at the bottom. Thus I feel it is a struck through. No evidence on the obverse tells me it happened during the strike.
