....and I hope you might consider doing the same.

I have a small hoard of rusty steel wheat cents. Stainless steel pins, a little bit of Lemi Shine, couple squirts of dishwashing soap, tumble for a period of time....and now, most are rust free!

WHY am I doing this? These coins were junk.

At Tuesday nights coin club meeting, each member will received an envelope with a small quantity of these in each. Their mission? To set them FREE in the travels over the next couple of months!

WHY? With GREAT hope that these will start the fire in a new Numismatist!

I like giving out free coins too.

Gave out some Two Cent Pieces a few years ago whenever I would hose up and not return a movie I borrow from someone promptly or the like as a late fee of sorts. Usually coins I get at the LCS for a dollar or so, but more meaningful than the buck.

As for cleaning coins, we used to have this one laundromat in town.

Had a big sign that said Coin Laundry.

When I was just starting out collecting coins as a kid I used to think that it was a place coin collectors would go and it would make all their coins new and shiny again.

Leave a few as tips, too. Instead of taking all my roll searched coins back to the bank I set them free when I eat at our local cafes. As long as the stack is an inch or so high, the waitresses don't mind. One actually RUNS to our table to make sure she serves us because her son in a coin collector. I always leave a silver dime or quarter then, too.

A guy at our local post office is a collector & says he get winged-liberty dimes on a fairly frequent basis. If I know I'm going to be stopping there, I'll drop something obscure just for the heck of it. I passed on a slick Barber dime that way. What I spend depends on whether I know the person is going to know the significance of the "donation".
