This puppy is rough, and I can't make out the date. The Denver mint mark shows up, though. I wonder what happened? Dryer Coin, perhaps?

Looks like an awful lot of circulation wear. I've never seen one so new that is so old looking.

Could have gotten caught in a forklift for 5 months and been skidded on concrete everyday....the possibilities are endless. Could be that someone out there just doesn't like Thomas Jefferson too ! ---

The obverse has got a neat, unintended look. Maybe a laundromat Dryer Coin?

I am not sure about the Dryer Coin. It looks like there is enough damage that certainly it would have been in the machine long enough to have a raised rim. I have seen coins that were in a fire come out with similar looking finish (not the wear on the OBV) in the past though. https://goccf.com/t/143863

A little yuck factor here>I used to work for a small municipality.Part of my job was "in the ditch" repair of storm drain and sewer pipes.Often coins would be hung up in roots or cracks in the pipes. Many of them in the sewer pipes had the colouration and wore down faces and letters from the household chemicals and grit carried in the pipes. These salvaged coins were often put back into circulation through the lunch room coffee machine.Irregular patterns of wear and colouration were dependant on the exposed position the coin had.
