Last 2 bags I have lost $25.00 when returning them and only found 4 silver dimes. Not even close to being worth it. Will stick with boxes from now on. Unless the coin counters when returning them were off? Frustrating.

You need to let them know. No way should you put up with losses like that. They can do a bag count and credit your account. I've had my institution credit me multiple times.

Personally I find roll hunting easier anyways, they come rolled in stacks that are easier to edge search. To me, it wouldn't be worth that risk of losing the money

I don't mess with dimes.
The only reason I would even touch a box of dimes is to get the current year dates for my album.
And I am usually lucky enough to get them back in change early in the year.
If I get a few rolls of dimes I make sure I spend them face to face to make sure I get full credit.

CAUTION! If this was at a TD bank then their coin counters have been off. Counting the wrong amounts. Loosing 25$ worth of dimes is a lot,and by all means if you didn't lose then, then the bank is at fault somewhere. I'd ask some questions if I were you. http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf...nes_edi.html

Bought a box of dimes and took them to the counter I had my first 10 loss and only was short .10 cents. Not that counter that is having problems.

I work at a sort/roll facility here on the northeast. Let me tell you how much dimes I find in the penny bags, lol. Each bag of TD 25$ pennies bags I find at least 5$ in dimes...

@the2sportguy, Yes I do, lots of silver dimes even in Pennie bags. Dimes being smaller than cents, they fall through a gap on the track that sends the coin to a stacker. At the end of a shift, I have to sort out the little bin, which is the size of a pint. Is usually full of dimes, some foreign coins, and clipped cents as in the error type. When I was boxing pennies, on a 8 hour shift I dump over 180 50$ bags of pennies. In my bins I usually find 3-6 silver dimes, sometimes I get foreign silver coins too.
@fistfulladirt, 80% of the bags come from TD bank, the courier weighs the bag, and my guess if it meets the requirement for a 50$ bag of pennies, the bank gets credit for 50$. When we dump and roll the coins, what ever we find, ie. Quarters, nickels, dimes etc... ALL goes to a sorting machine, then to the courier's account.

@liu21 do you keep the silver dimes and swap them out, or you just have to throw them back in to be resorted? Is there any point in roll searching for silver dimes, quarters anymore?

@coincollectinnewtime, sadly if I were to take the coins it would be considered stealing. As I am not allowed to bring coins into the facility. If I do have coins with me, I must leave them at the security office. Although I've never asked if I can swap out coins, it would be a hassle to do so. Having to explain and bring silver coins out the processing area, to the security office and explain to the guard about swapping out coins. Then taking coins back to processing area and have someone verify that I brought back the same amount. I'm just a new employee, I wouldn't be surprised if someone with some rank within the facility can easily pull off a coin swap. All coins I find, I can either toss them into the good mix coin bucket, which is then taken and processed for garda's personal account. From there I don't know where the coin end up, most likely back into bags to be rolled later. Bent/damaged US coins are sent back to the fed/mint for credit. Same goes for foreign coins. If I was allowed to swap out coins, lol I would not be working as hard, As I would be searching for silver most of the time. Instead of focusing on clearing jams in the rolling machines and boxing coins. How ever if someone was mainly focused on searching for silver, he/she can easily clear 5$ in silver a day, dimes, quarters, silver War Nickels. My facility boxes halves once every two weeks or so. I'm sure with halves you can easily find a lot more due to he lower volume. Especially when it comes to older halves i.e. Franklins and walkers, they stick out amount JFK halves.
