This is on a Jefferson nickel. Can't find any listing on Coneca, so I may be wrong.

*#^* these proofs are hard to get decent pictures of.
No opinions?
Another picture.

The more I look at this the more I believe it's damage. The shift just doesn't appear correct to me.

Another picture and maybe mystery solved.

Looking straight down at the coin, 3 appears to be normal. Till just a bit and Machine Doubling appears on lower leg of digit.

Because it looks like there is substantial evidence of a second "S" in more than one place under the first, I think that's a bona fide RPM.

I would have to see this one in person to tell much of anything for sure. There are a LOT of 1983-1984 proof cents with Machine Doubling on the mintmark, and a lot of people have been fooled by them.

Can we get a picture like the third one with the entire MM. I need to see the whole thing as well as the area just under the MM.

Right now from what I see, based upon the crack in the lower loop, the damage to the diagonal part of the S and what appears a be a normal die chip inside the upper loop of the MM, I would suggest that it is a damaged mintmark with the damage occurring as the coin was being ejected.

I still lean toward Machine Doubling and damage but Chuck is right, these are better to look at in person.
