Bureau of Engraving and Printing - First Day of Sale: May 17, 2016 (8:00 a.m. ET) - The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is pleased to introduce the 2016 $2 Single Note Collection, featuring a Series 2013 $2 note from both the Dallas and San Francisco Federal Reserve Banks with serial numbers beginning with "2016xxxx." Each note is protected by a clear acid-free polymer sleeve in an attractive folder representative of the corresponding Federal Reserve District. The 2016 $2 Single Note Collection is $15.90 and is limited up to 5,000 sets. There is a 25-set limit per household during the pre-release period, May 17 - 30, 2016. On May 31, after the pre-release period expires, household purchase restrictions end and individual notes are available for $7.95 per unit, while supplies last.

I don't get it.
Someone please talk me into buying these.
Let me give you some back story on me and BEP collectibles. I have purchased virtually everything the BEP has pumped out for over a decade, and even searched out and bought collectibles they released before then. I've even purchased every block, so far, of the $2 8888 Lucky Money sheets, blocks K-B through K-N. The BEP used to feature cool matching low serial numbered Star notes, and matching high serial numbered sets. Recently though, it's the same old stuff. The series 2013 $2 Dallas note, starting with serial number "2016", was just released in the 2016 Founding Fathers set, and is still available at the BEP Money Store. What makes this any different ? Sooner or later I'm going to have to cut the cord with the BEP and it's "so called" Premium products.
Sorry about the rant.

I won't talk you into buying this product.
Let me add that this gimmick of 201X as the beginning of the serial number has been around at least 2 years. Some BEP marketing guru likely said, "Hey let's set aside batches of notes beginning with 201X and sell these at 3-4X face, if collectors buy them we can do this annually".
To me, these aren't worth a premium.

It's like an ebay marketing ploy. "Buy this excellent dollar bill because it has the latitude and longitude of Jimmy Hoffa's grave encoded in the serial number!"

Thanks you Meadowview and Celtic.
I'm cutting the cord until they (BEP) come up with something more interesting.

They represent a surprising lack of creativity for the price.

I guess I didn't realize it was both notes for $16, (not $16 each) including shipping. That sweetens the deal considerably, but I think I'm still a pass on these.

Eight dollars shipped for one note with a not-so-fancy presentation is still not worthwhile to me.

Yippy-skippy.
Perfect example of the BEP/US Mint business model: spending your tax dollars to create junk collectibles which they then sell back to you for a fat profit.
Amazing.

The BEP/US Mint tag team makes the Franklin Mint look like amateurs.
