So I got a packet full of repairs to do at work and the first one I opened happened to be this coin bezel made in 14K yellow gold, hung on a hollow-linked Italian chain. (Only the chain needed repair)

Lucky for the customer my coworker didn't get to it first because he would have probably dipped it in acid and buffed it. Totally would have ruined the piece. The toning is brown, imagine if it was white, the customer would've thought we switched the coin on her!

Just so you know there are repairmen looking out for coin collectors. I looked in my Krause North American edition but there was nothing. Looks like 1622, King Phillip?

Hopefully someone else can confirm, but I think you are working on a Spanish 1 Real, with aqueduct mintmark (Segovia) and P mintmaster initial (Esteban de Pedrera). Ruler was Phillip IV. Non in my 1999 edition of 17th Century World Coins by Krause. Glad you didn't take a wire brush to it!

I see what looks like a cast copy (or perhaps badly sea salvaged) Philip IV, 1627 (looks like 1622), one real of Segovia (Aquaduct mint msrk with two arcs)and assayer P. There is such a thing but it should have cleaner and finer design details in the less worn spots. The legend seems off (letters non radial) and lacks proper spacing compared to images of the real thing (the "V" of "Philippvs" should be aligned with the bottom of the shield for instance.

Pistareen basically called it... From memory, I think this is actually a Fisher "Atocha-era" product. I believe what was done was to take a 1627 Segovia 1R (one of the common dates of the type) and tweak the 7 to a 2 to make it "1622" for the year of the Atocha's sinking.

However, don't get caught up on legend lettering as a proof - there is going to be variation from die to die in this regard.
