Poll Question

Curious to know peoples' buy/sell/trade habits.

Personally I rarely visit brick and mortal coin stores or attend shows or clubs (there aren't many in my area, and the few that are don't carry much in my area of interest. Plus the internet is open 24/7)

thanks

Coin stores generally sell their coins at 100% trends with maybe a 10-20% wiggle room...
Online ( generally ebay and icollector auctions) you can buy the same items for 40-60% or sometimes better depending on the day.
So online is normally the way I go for most items. But than again, it's always nice to see a coin in hand before you buy it.

I have very good relationships with my LCS, so I can generally get way better prices this way. That being said, the variety of new material coming in is rather limited, so I can't have everything.

I have bought on-line, and may yet get into auctions, as I have reached the stage of my collecting where new material that I want is much harder to find.

Although I do make the majority of my coin purchases online, it is definitely not by choice, there are simply no other options in my area. As with XWLCOINS, I would prefer viewing a coin in hand before purchasing. So many online coin sellers use poor photos, no photos, or photos of only one side of a coin. Or my personal favourite... When I ask a seller for a photo of the reverse side of the coin and the seller says no, it's certified, you don't need to see the other side!

I buy locally, usually small purchases that lead to larger collections and references that are not publicly listed.
Almost always I sell on ebay, to reach the largest market of collectors. Despite the 13% fees from eBay/Paypal, it always turns out better than local offers.

Much prefer buying in person. Plus, the price I get at my LCS is comparable to online so I'm lucky. I usually just go to "hang out" anyway. Can't really do that on ebay.

Currently with the lower Canadian dollar versus the American dollar. My shift is towards more LCS, flea markets, antique shows or stores, and coin bourses.

When the Canadian dollar was around par or better, myself 95% on-line.

Now I purchase coins here or there, locally. Yes it is easier on ebay or elsewhere on the worldwide web. But getting up and walking around looking at stuff ala American Picker, I do get some exercise.
