With the damage to the coin, I doubt if he would offer an opinion? If it is inverted, there should be a million other examples out there to find. So far no one has found one of the other examples to submit. Keep looking for a better example.

Is there some sort of mathematical relationship I could look for?

I was only comparing yours to the S mint marks you posted pics of from coppercoins and it looks like a normal S...also looking at the inside loops of the S to me they seem to match right up with the normal one

Does the bottom normally stick out farther than the top? I think for mine the top sticks out further than the bottom? Like is there a mathematical formula for the curvature I could use or something?

Also I went through my other 69 s mint marks (only like 10 total) and the closest thing I could find was this one, but the top doesn't stick out as far as the bottom in this one so I think the original one is not the same?

The contact mark distorts the actual original shape.

@greenprint..A DISCOVERY coin is a coin that has not been discovered yet. After evaluation,it is encapsulated with the words,DISCOVERY,in capital letters along with all the other information. It looks as if you may have one yourself.Congrats again.

should I try freezing/melting or olive oil this penny to try and get some of the white stuff off? I wonder if a cleaner surface would even help?

With the green present, it might be hard/impossible to make this coin look better without ruining it. The only thing I would try is mineral oil.
Any acidic would remove part of the surface of the coin, turning it pink in color.
Cleanser would scratch the surface leaving polishing lines on the coin.
Olive oil in organic and might make the coin stink in time.
A soak in mineral oil might remove part of the white area? But don't rub it. The green probably will never go away without removing part of the surface. Some might try water, but make the coin is fully dry before storing it. Other wise the rest of the coin will turn green. Others will have different suggestions. But what ever you do try, experiment on a different coin to see what the results might be first. When you are happy with a result, then think about it some more. If you do the wrong thing the possible value might be gone with the wrong procedure used. (usually about 90% less on a cleaned coins that ruined the value)

I also have a 1969 that the S looks like this. As soon as I remember what I did with it.. ill post it. There is no white stuff to contend with and its a good looking coin. Guve me a few hours to rummage through my pennies.

Interesting thread and the OP's coin certainly looked like the MM was inverted.

I wonder if they ever sent the coin off?
