Just for the heck of it, I was going through some notes and checking the print runs on uspapermoney.info. The note in question is a series 2006 $5 note, with the SN IA 01700783 *. According to the site, no star notes were issued in the series of 2006. What am I missing?

According to the star note lookup, there was 3.8 million printed. Us paper money prolly made an error.

The BEP printed 2 different $5 series for 2006.

The first series starts with H, and is not colorized, and the second series starts with I, and is colorized.

Early series, non colorized;
I'm-Confused-Here--2006-$5-Star

Late series, colorized;
I'm-Confused-Here--2006-$5-Star

The early series did not last long, and had no stars printed. The late series had stars printed for Boston (A*), Richmond (E*), Atlanta (F*), Chicago (G*), and San Francisco (L*).

Edited to add; How this major design change did not trigger a new series is still a mystery to me.

No kidding! Anyone have the skinny on this?

I had no idea. Now I'm going to have to add the non-colorized to my checklist. Thanks!

uspapermoneyinfo did not make a mistake. If you view the Block and Group list you can see where the 2006 series $5 FRN's have two sections to choose from, early and late. http://www.uspapermoney.info/groups/
