Hi,

I know 100 dollar star notes series 2009 are by no means rare but with more than a third extra star note attached it could bear a premium.

What is your estimate, how much could this star note bring?

Based on what I can see, and the assumption that it has not been made after market from a BEP collector issued sheet, your note is a great error note.

To bring max money it needs to be third party graded and slabbed by either PCGS Currency or PMG and placed in a high visibility auction.

Major errors (like yours) on next gen notes are as scarce as hen's teeth. I'd place an estimate of 1500 to 2000$ on your note and that is in a very soft market right now.

Good luck and a big welcome to the CCF Forum family!

What are the starting few digits of the serial numbers? There's no need to redact the SN anyway.
Assuming you have this note in hand, how did you come to acquire it?

Given its strange shape and additional material, I'm skeptical that a note like this could survive in such pristine (no folds, creases, etc) before making it to a collector's hands. Also what's attached to it at the top of the 1/3 $100 note?

The BEP collectors sheets were all series 2009A LF-A block sheets, and the OP's note is from an LD* sheet.
The face plate letters are A & B, which would make it the upper left corner of the sheet, which makes it legit.

As far as pricing goes, major errors on $100's are very rare and expensive. Check out this similar major cutting error on a 2009A $100 Star note.

thank you for a warm welcome and for your posts.

I think your deduction Steve is correct, the colour bar clearly shows the end of the sheet, which was folded at the top left corner. The note is unfortunately not pristine, comes from a very short circulation.

I am going to follow your advice westernsky and send it slabbed.

Thank you again.

AH! I see the crease now in the OP's note. That makes much more sense. I did a quick (and rough) experiment. Results below.

Congrats, probably just handled a bit by the finder rather than actually circulating.

Hi guys,

additional query.
When trying to determine the "high visibility" auction, three auction houses for currency stick out for me: HA, Stacks&Bowers, Lyn Knight.
I canīt seem to find and compare their premium rates or fees I would have to pay as a consignor.

Any recommendations?

You can't go wrong with any of the three. All of them are top notch.

If it were mine, I would try to get it into a Heritage Platinum Auction, opposed to a Tuesday Night Auction.
You could call or email them for current rates. They should all be within 1 or 2 points of each other.
