Hello Coin Community!

I normally stick to the books, and unless there is something I can't research, myself I don't post much. But this I can't quite figure out;

I purchased a coin collection from this guy at his "Retirement Garage Sale", and I immediately noticed a few really astounding coins (i.e. 1922 no date, doubled die 1992, etc.). Additionally, there were about 75 absolutely flawless, completely uncirculated 1943 steel Lincoln cents. Following the oddly large collection of steel pennies, were a couple weird steel cents with copper spotting. Of course I don't want to jump the gun, but is it possible that whoever assembled the set worked at the mint and saved the transition cents?

Sorry for the post if it's foolish, but I really can't figure it out!

Thank you for the help!

Best regards,
Mickey

My guess is that it is rust.

For the 75 flawless cents, it is possible they are replated or reprocessed:

Weights on these two are 2.61g and 2.81g.magnet picked both up. But when placed next to normal steel 1943's they had a little less magnetic pull than the standard 1943. The regular 1943 I used as a control got picked up before the other two.

I think you are right about the shiny one being plated, because there were numerous other plated items in the batch. The other one is the one I'm really curious about.
Rest in Peace

I'm pretty sure you are looking at rust ,not copper spots. as for the shiny ones , looks like they are reprocessed .

ot sure if it is rust or surface contamination. Either way they are nothing special or overly desirable. And the "shiny" one is definitely plated, and not a good job of it either.
