Hi, I know I read about a 1921-P Mogran VAM somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it again. What is the VAM, that deals with the fletching on the arrows, and where it meets the olive branch? I need to try and take some better pics, and as soon as I do I will post them. Thanks for the help.

1921 VAM's are way out of my expertise (I am on the other end of the Morgan era 1878) but SuperDave has more knowledge about 1921 VAM's than anyone else I know and hopefully he will see this thread and pop in a answer for you shortly

Most of the '21-P VAMs deal with pitting and reeding. Have fun.

Thats where I have been, and you are right, it is hard to find a VAM that isn't a die gouge, or pitting. I just got tired of looking, and thought someone here might know right off the top of their head. I guess that I will have to wait for SuperDave... lol

*UPDATE*

Ok, here are the pics. I have 5 1921-P Morgans, and three of them are the same as the last pic, but I think that the first two pics are differant then the third.

Ok, I figured it out. Those 2 pics are VAM-1, 17 berry reverses. So, what does this mean? Is it worth getting the VAM certified?

If the Morgan is MS, slab it, sell it, and buy yourself something pretty.

That means it's a "normal" 1921 Morgan. VAM-1 for any year is the baseline coin. The arrow fletches you show are completely unremarkable for a 1921. However, that doesn't mean you have a VAM-1 just because it's a 17-berry reverse - there are a lot of varieties with that reverse.

I see the difference between the first two and the third reverse. The top 2 should be 17-berry reverses, and the third a 16-berry reverse, which has a thicker olive branch.

So, if I understand this correctly, I do have a D1A '17 berry reverse' on those two coins, but that alone doesn't mean much. Correct?

From what I read on vamworld it does mean that my VAM is limited to VAM-1 and its numerous sub-varities, and "some other 21-P VAMs in the higher number ranges." Correct? Now, I just have to figure out which one, right?
