I saw a slab with an 1858/7 Flying Eagle cet in AU-53 with a weak designation. So its AU-53, but a weak strike It had a CAC sticker on it. So what does this mean? Its a weakly struck coin that did not make choice AU. Its almost not a weak strike and almost Choice AU? Its almost AU-54? What is this for a nonsense? Don't we have to put another sticker on it to verify it is at the high end of the CAC designation?

The green sticker means that CAC agrees with what is written on the label. A gold sticker means that CAC thinks it should have graded higher. So if it is labeled as AU53 Weak Strike, the green sticker means CAC thinks they are right.

It is my impression that the green seal not only suggests that CAC agrees with the grade, but that it is above average for the grade.

That's correct, the coin must be strong for the grade to receive a green sticker.

From the CAC website:

"For many years, coin dealers and advanced collectors have used the letters A, B, and C among themselves to further describe coins. C indicates low-end for the grade, B indicates solid for the grade, and A indicates high-end. CAC will only award stickers to coins in the A or B category. C coins, although accurately graded, will be returned without a CAC sticker."

i think the 'weak' designation is talking about the strength of the over date...

I think you are misunderstanding and/or overthinking the intended purpose of the CAC sticker.

Actually, no. I understand the purpose of the CAC sticker perfectly. It is to generate revenue from the bulk of already graded and slabbed coins in the market via the specious pretense that they are able to pick out premium coins in the grade.

I'm going to create a sticker for all the CAC slabs. It will be blue (my favorite color) with the letters BS and pick the best of the best of the best CAC slabs and put it on them.

An 1858/7 FE isn't exactly a common coin. I would appreciate the additional opinion for future marketability if I was considering purchasing it.

That is not the purpose of CAC. And I'm not going to try and explain it again.

If I had choice to buy two coins of same grade, one with CAC and the other without, odds are the CAC coin would look better and be my preferred coin of choice.
