Is it delaminating? Many of the central devices seem to be stripped rather than worn?

Very interesting... It could be woodgraining from the improper alloy mix that is causing a stripping similar to a lamination?

If there are any other explanations about what is going on here - I'm all ears!

Trying to figure out all that's going on.
1. Alloy mix issue. 2. Little under weight. 3. Possible weak strike. Faint details and rim.
Last I'm just throwing out there. 4. Could the planchet been flawed (pre strike split) to start with? Thanks, Doug.

If it is, indeed, an improper alloy mix, might the reason for such a weak strike in areas be that those portions of the coin experienced a hardness variation greater than acceptable for a normal strike?

Might be a Woody on a thin planchet. Nice find.

Or it is a thinned planchet? It is under weight.
