Maybe nothing but want to run it by you all. The first "1" is way shorter on one of the "81's" than on the other. Is this normal ? Images are of the 2 different LC's. Still haven't found the flip with the long "1" in it or I would supply a closer image.

I believe that is the design. I went through some 1981s and they look exactly the same.

They are probably all like that. The master die may have passed this on down.

I am referring to the first "1" on two different coins. I have one "81" that the first "1" proceeding the "9" is the same length as the"1" following the "8". On the second coin the "1" is much shorter (which appears to be the norm) than the "1" following the "8". Maybe it is time I learn to do overlays so I can show what I am seeing.

When you draw the lines between the two 1's in the date, note where they flow across the '8' in the date. The rotation of the date to horizontal can be different, but the intersecting lines through the 8 should be the same. (Horizontal will be hard to determine because the 1's are at different heights) Use the same first three digits to determine horizontal. Then they should match.

Coop, I think I did what you are saying in the images I posted. I will try and find a different way of showing it.

It is pretty noticeable in these images. The long "1" is one I posted with a pre-cud a couple weeks ago that you could not fine the actual Cud ever being listed. It is possible this die was replaced before the Cud formed.
