Just drawing attention to himself.
He'll get lots of looks at his other items.
Worked well didn't it.

I wonder if the repeating 0101010 tells us anything? Could this value have been computed erroneously somehow?

Agreed. While it's understood that sellers occasionally make listing errors, this one has been listed and relisted too many times to believe it's simply an oversight. While it might be intended as a marketing ploy, tactics such as this reflect poorly on the general integrity of the seller and becomes a reason for buyers such as myself to avoid.

He would be better off to submit this coin to PCGS, there is a chance this unit might grade ms65 and become one of the best graded, then comes the big bucks but not quite 800 grand

Marketing tactics reflect poorly on a person's integrity? Even when there is clearly no wrongdoing or victim here?

What?

I get that it may be annoying but integrity?

The same seller is often using the same tactics on Kijiji, buyer beware of course, however, unfortunately some fall prey to such, perhaps during an impulse buy of sorts.

Yes in my opinion this sort of marketing tactic reflects poorly on integrity of the seller, although I appreciate others might not care. In my view, a seller who makes an intentional "mistake" on a listing is just as likely to make an intentional "mistake" in filling an order.

That seems to be a rather drastic leap...

Huh.
Gee, this seller asks 100x actual value on this one, so they are probably going to rip me off on their other items, therefore I will avoid at all costs = marketing fail
Gosh, this seller really has some high quality stuff! I should buy something from them! = marketing success
You decide.

Marketing may attract attention of potential buyers but it's doesn't automatically generate sales.

This is hardly the venue for a lecture on virtues and maybe it's an age thing where ethics and integrity matter to some folks more than others. So I'll just say this..... Prior to the popularity of online selling, the difference between a successful salesperson and one who was avoided was in the way in which they related to their customers and their ability (or lack of) to create a business relationship based on trust and reliability.

ebay isn't a whole lot different however the array of sellers to chose from is generally far more plentiful. Even buying at the very lowest price isn't always the only factor if a few more bucks offers a better chance of a no hassle purchase.

Online, simply by observing a seller's listings and the words they write it's also possible to get some sense of who's behind the selling screen. Buyers are generally not inclined to buy from a seller if they have to wonder "Am I going to get ripped off?" which is the same reason why negative feedback is another topic of discussion. Definitely, for me ebay advertising including blatant hype and deception falls into is a red flag "stay away" category. That defines marketing success, not!

As buyers, each of us make our own choices based on what they perceive to be the seller's principles, and this is mine...
