I emailed Brian Ribar as well but I'm not sure if he got the message. My Gmail told me his email address was no longer valid. Anybody know how to get ahold of him?

Hi Jimmyjohns7724 and all.I have been busy but I am posting an update. My coins came back to me as MS Detailed.huhish? First off,my coins were and have not ever been cleaned, but NGC wouldn't evaluate my coins further because they thought they were cleaned. So,naturally, I am a little heated and told my coin dealer that I sent those coins in to designate their variety, which they are SMS's,so why didn't they do that.I said it is fine that they thought they were cleaned but I paid for a Variety Attribution.Needless to say,I had to return the coins back to them so they can Atribute them. There goes more time and money.I trust my dealer and NGC, but I don't like the way this is going down. This situation just happens when it comes to my SMS coins.Coop or anyone else, has this happen to you all? It makes me alittle uneasy, thats all.

NDCent I still haven't heard any news on mine which leads me to believe I may have the same issue as far as SP/SMS designation. I'm about to be posting up some pictures of an immaculate 1964 full set I just got in today and the comparison on the Nickel is EDS, but extremely similar to what I saw in my original Nickels as far as the polishing. I think the problem with these coins is that there are so few, and unlike typical Die Markers on Doubled Dies and such, polish lines are not going to be as standard as a specific Die marker. The few examples to compare pictures to are the ms66-67's, but the picture of the MS60's they've graded would probably be pretty different in comparison. Anyways that's just my opinion, no fact behind it. I just wouldn't necessarily assume every polish line is going to be the same. As Coop said, some they are highly noticeable and some they are barely visible at all. Tough call on these. I assume it's about the same as finding that 65-67 in excellent condition and finding it extremely hard to say it is or is not an SMS coin. Proofs are available in rolls so one would assume the SMS would have been the same. So being that they hadn't been known as special strikes until 1993, how many AU 50's are out there from being mindlessly spent as just a Nickel? The theory that is always published steers away from that theory considering they sell for $30k nowadays. If I was the grading company making that kind of money, I'd stick with that story too. Nobody will ever know why some 1964's have proof rims and deep strikes with an off metal appearance because the only "facts" to go on are from the grading company and auctioneers unfortunately. My original nickel from this post should be decided on any day though so we'll see.

Proofs are only available in rolls because someone broke apart numerous proof sets to create those rolls. The US Mint has never sold rolls of proof coins.

I said they're AVAILABLE not packaged from the Mint. A 2003 auction from Heritage stated their Lincoln SMS had a fingerprint and it was aged and Toned as the original coin, so they assumed the SMS werent handled much differently than Business Strikes. Story has changed, but so has the price. Nobody can guarantee that the SMS 64's weren't packed in rolls.
