When I dealt with this fellow about 4 years back he was offering free online appraisals of coins via kijiji. This was when I first started collecting. He appraised a few for me and I had done some research as to potential value/values and could not believe his prices then offers to buy. I do re-call some of the items he was selling didn't look right, now it comes full circle in my awareness of the dealings with him. Yes I'll never forget that name Colin Cutler................

Just being devil's advocate but are we completely positive that the person selling these coins is the name that was mentioned at the start of this thread? I commend the new member's enthusiasm in bringing this situation to light but it would be irresponsible to escalate this unless absolutely certain. I've looked at the kijiji advertisements and see no mention of that name brought forward. I'm assuming that others here know more than what has been said or that I'm missing something obvious.

Even if the person mentioned is not selling the counterfeits it is illegal for him to display them at conventions without special dispensation. It is illegal to purchase or possess counterfeit Canadian coins for any purpose and it is shocking that the ONA and RCNA appear to condone this illegal behaviour.

Sure sounds like a slimeball. The thing is, most people when made aware their coins are illegal to sell/post/advertise, they take it down. This guy is a piece of work, heck argue that it IS legal, using nonsensical arguments while I copy verbatim parts of the Criminal Code for him to see. I told him Id forward his listing to the RCMP if he did not remove it, he didnt seem phased at all. I do hope someone talks to him or at least the RCNA people. UGH DISGUSTING how someone can claim theyre a part of this hobby, yet sell fakes. I have no reason to lie and do not know or have had any dealings with the this Cutler person. It just makes me angry and thought people should know.

I contacted the RCNA immediately when I first saw your post last night sophiew. I received a reply almost immediately from the executive secretary stating that these allegations will be investigated as quickly as possible.

The matter is being dealt with as we speak. Remember, the RCNA is a national organization, so it isn't possible for any change to take place overnight. It's worth pointing out that this passage is taken directly from the RCNA's bylaws section 2.04 - Code of Ethics Quote: I agree not to sell, exhibit, produce, nor advertise counterfeits, copies, restrikes,or reproductions of any numismatic items, even if bearing such stampings, including any reproductions of current circulating currency, non circulating legaltender ("NCLT"), and ancient to modern demonetized currency, or any reproductions of numismatic-related exonumia (i.e. tokens, medals/medallions, scrip), notaphily (i.e. paper/plastic currency, banknotes, cheques, credit cards), or scripophily (i.e. stocks and bond certificates). Excepted from the above are government and other official restrikes/re-issues, and items historically recognized as numismatic collectibles, and accepted by the numismatic community as such, and printed items that are either less than 75 percent or greater than 150 percent in size of actual pieces, or are clearly identified as "souvenir cards" and are printed on a different media than the originals; and, excepted from the above are government agencies, crown corporations, or employees thereof, and knowledgeable experts in counterfeits or counterfeiting, who are recognized by the numismatic community as such, who exhibit, advertise, or present items identified above for education purposes; The bylaws can be read by anyone at the link below (they are at the bottom of the RCNA's home page): http://rcna.ca/bylaws.pdfThis is being taken very seriously and being addressed, as I personally feel it should be.

It's worth pointing out that while the display guidelines may state something different, the bylaws trump anything else.

The individual posts on kijiji that they are the ona executive for area 1a. The ONA (an executive) has confirmed the identity. I am mad. CCN is on board. I have contacted the RCNA as well as the ONA. I will not sit by and watch a supposed trusted member of the ONA Executive KNOWINGLY profit from counterfeiting. Mike Marshall

Mike, that's great news, I really hope this guy get's hit hard for his ways and how he takes advantage of people for personal gain.
I've always said, "Truth" will always prevail, and dues will always be paid and never on a certain persons time frame, but when the moment is right!
Cheers and a very big TY for all your efforts that you continue to do in keeping this activity in check.

My faith in the RCNA is being restored. I have received another email from the executive secretary of the RCNA. The executive is already investigating the allegations of the selling of counterfeits. They will change the rules so that such displays of counterfeits will not appear at the convention in July or at future conventions.

How is it possible that this went unnoticed at any of the conventions or shows?
