Hi Everyone, New to this site. I have been buying and selling for about a year now and I was wondering if someone can answer this for me. I have two $5.00 bank notes with the same serial number, why is that?

They can be from different series and still end up with the same serial number. (Or ya got some counterfeits)

I overlapped them to show I have 2 also if you look close you can see ( what I think are fibers ) for example in the top bill just before the "C" and the tip of the tree you can see a fiber and there isn't any in the lower note. If they were counterfeits wouldn't they be the same? Again new that this...thanks again

They are not counterfeits. But they are also not the same note. The serial number is the different for each

Should change the topic title, not the same serial number. Click bait and switch.

He is from Baddeck so I know exactly what he is having! I do not drink anymore but you got to love the Island.
Anyways to answer your question...
Yes it IS possible for two bank notes to have the same serial number and not be counterfeit. However you have two different serial numbers here.
-They way I had it explained to me by a CTC collector (Canadian Tire Coupon in case you didn't know) was that you have sheets of bills waiting to be cut into separate bills. -They pile these sheets one on top of one another, that way when the cut them they have them cut in stacks. -Each bill on the sheet is numbered in a set pattern, not 1,2,3 etc. It might go 01 11 21 31, then the next sheet put on top would go 02, 12, 22, 32 etc. This way when they do cut down through the bills they will have a nice stack of consecutive bills, you see? -The bill is not printed on as a finished product, it is "layered". They may print the Queen on all of them at first, then the "$20" etc. The serial numbers get's it own stamp phase -The serial number stamp might get stuck and stamp the same number several times. If you get a stack of bills you may find them
That is how it would happen. I hope you can picture that. If I was in front of you I would be waving my hands around to make it more clear, you know?
Again, your bills have two different serial numbers.

Thanks Harmonica! Very informative description on how numbering is done! That is a very efficient way to pile and cut them.
