I don't think it is real. If it was real the seller should have no problems providing a side view of the coin. If it is PMD the coin would be half its normal size.

1. At the very least, they should give the weight. If it is underweight for a planchet, we know that it was likely machined off.
2. Both sides of a coin are struck simultaneously, not one side at a time. The explanation is as suspicious as the item.

Real quarter - altered. The seller is likely unfamiliar with the minting process.

Fake. I think the seller may understand the minting process very well.

The missing rim gives it away. A coin or planchet cannot be rimmed on one side only, it's both or nothing. As Coinfrog said the seller does not understand the minting process very well.

XLW COINS- Please put this on the Canadian Counterfeit Thread. It is clearly an altered coin and should be removed.

Seller states Quote: "Probably ejected from machine before stamping the Obverse"
News flash" Both sides are struck at the same time. In all fairness the seller doesn't seem to understand the minting process. The question now becomes would he take it down himself or sell it any way if he found out the truth

Yes I am a member of this group and I can see I've raised some eyebrows here...loll For those who have commented and complained to ebay and which caused the listing to be removed & transferred this coin to the dreaded 'Counterfeit' blacklist, here's the brief history of the coin & myself. I bought this coin off of ebay last year shortly before posting it here, so nothing to hide. Many 'Opinions' originally but no 100% solid conclusions. Myself. I am a former machinist and understand a little about metal & measurement. Although I may not Fully understand the entire minting process and may be missing something, a friendly heads up instead of a snarky, accusatory and condescending warning in my ebay inbox would have sufficed. That said, I have measured this coin down to the 10 thousands of an inch (.0001) and if it is as everyone thinks (ground down), as I did when I first received it please give your honest opinions as to what percentage of the thickness would be left if the rim and the entire effigy (leaving no trace at all) were truly ground down. I would love to get to the bottom of this coin because I am perplexed but I have done some limited research and have some ideas about how this could have been produced through the minting process and are willing to stand corrected. I do not think it is counterfeit and will try to get to the bottom of it and to be honest, would enjoy proving everyone wrong...loll So what percentage of the thickness would be left if the rim and the entire effigy (leaving no trace at all) were truly ground down. If we start with that, we can do the math and through the process of elimination, maybe really know what went on with this coin. All civilised comments welcome and appreciated. Best regards. P.S. I will try to get better photos and will follow up with precise measurements that were on the ebay listing (full disclosure there) before it was abruptly taken down with no warning from ebay and I hadn't saved to a file. I will redo this shortly.

Just weigh it. If the weight is off (low), you're almost surely looking at a grind job / PMD.
